DLC Commercial

I was filmed and did the voice-over for a commercial that was shown to all Anaheim City School District employees.  The purpose of the commercial was to introduce the new Digital Learning Coach (DLC) position and explain how DLCs will assist teachers in integrating 21st century skills into their instruction with technology.  It was important for teachers to clearly see the benefits of this added position, as many teachers were unsure of the need for DLCs in the first place.

This artifact shows that I am meeting the performance indicators for ISTE Standard 1.a: Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students.  In being a part of the commerical creation process, I contributed to the development of a shared technology vision for Anaheim City School District.  The commercial made it clear what ACSD's vision is for supporting a digital-age education for all students.  I also helped to communicate this vision via the commercial so teachers understood how the new DLC role will help them in becoming 21st century educators.  Before viewing the commercial, my teachers were weary about the new position and unsure how it would affect them.  After watching the commercial, numerous teachers told me how much more they understood my role and how excited they were for my support.  The commercial truly helped to share ACSD's vision for technology integration in the classroom.

Technology Integration Plan

As a Digital Learning Coach, one of my roles is to work with the principals at my two schools to create a Technology Integration Plan.  The above image is a snapshot of what the plan looks like.  The plan is divided into grade spans K-3 and 4-6, and contains technology integration goals for each trimester.  Using my own experience and expertise in educational technology, I guided my principals in choosing the priority for the five technology tools teachers will be implementing.  I also helped to determine specifically what mastery in each grade span should look like.  This Technology Integration Plan is a two-year plan to make sure that I am on track in helping teachers to reach the trimester technology goals.  It has also been shared with the teachers so they take part in meeting the trimester goals.

This artifact demonstrates my competency in meeting ISTE Standard 1.b: Contribute to the planning, development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans at the district and school levels.  By guiding my principals in the creation of this Technology Integration Plan, I contributed to the development of a shared vision for technology integration at both schools.  I also explained the plan to the teachers at my schools, making sure I communicated what is expected at each grade level.  This plan helps teachers know what is expected of them in using technology that supports digital-age education for their students.  The goals help me to focus my teacher support when implementing the Technology Integration Plan.  Finally, I will use this plan to evaluate how I am supporting teachers and if they have met the trimester objectives.  I communicated these objectives with my school district and they have approved of my plan.

ACSD Twitter Chat

A few Digital Learning Coaches (DLCs) and I were discussing ways to include our teachers in EdTech discussions.  We decided to start our own Twitter Chat for Anaheim City School District teachers.  This invitation was posted at all of our schools as well as on the ACSD staff portal page.  DLCs are commiting to one Twitter Chat each month to discuss what is going well with technology, EdTech challenges, and ways those challenges have been overcome.  I was the leader of our first ACSD Twitter Chat, posting the questions and responding to teachers.  As the facilitator, I was part of all of the productive conversations about EdTech in Anaheim City School District.

This artifact shows how I am meeting the performance indicators for ISTE Standard 1.d: Implementing strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and manage the change process in schools and classrooms.  The ACSD Twitter Chat allows us DLCs to check in monthly and see what is working in our district.  It will also help us to identify common technology needs across the district.  What our teachers say in these Twitter Chats will help DLCs in planning the support teachers need in integrating technology into their classrooms.  The feedback from the Twitter Chat will help the other DLCs and me to implement strategies that sustain technology innovations in schools because we are hearing what works and will continue those processes.  By listening to teachers' needs, we will be able to better manage the change process in our schools, while empowering teachers by giving them more of a voice.
